Ferrowyn - Cable Knit Column Skirt
A straight column skirt in cable knit, falling below the calf, with a wide knitted waistband.
The cable was worked into fishermen's sweaters to double the yarn where the cold came through. On a skirt it does the same job in the same place, and happens to look like something.
Why this knit skirt?
- Cable panels: the twist doubles the yarn back on itself, which is why a cabled skirt is warmer than a flat knit of the same weight.
- Column shape: the width stays the same from waist to hem, so the skirt reads as a single line rather than a shape.
- Wide knitted waistband: deep enough to sit flat under a tucked-in top without a ridge.
- Below the calf: the hem clears the top of a boot instead of stopping at it.
- Lined at the seat: a smooth jersey lining stops the knit catching on tights.
Ideal for:
Women who stop wearing skirts in November and would rather not. This one works over opaque tights and under a long coat without bunching.
Is there a slit?
No. The skirt has enough width knitted into it to walk in, which is what a slit is usually compensating for.
Will the cable stretch out?
The cable is knitted into the structure, not sewn on. Cold washing and drying flat keeps the twist standing.
Does it need a slip?
No, the seat is lined. Below the lining the knit is dense enough on its own.
